ShadowCAT Introduces 'Catfish,' a 73m Adventure Catamaran Concept
Support yacht specialist Shadowcat has unveiled an innovative 72.8-metre catamaran concept named Catfish, developed in collaboration with Berlin-based T. Fotiadis Design. This announcement follows T. Fotiadis' recent introduction of a 140-metre trimaran concept, which has drawn considerable attention in the yachting community. The naval architecture for Catfish has been expertly handled by Incat Crowther.
Catfish sets itself apart with its advanced wave-compensation davits capable of operating in challenging 1.5-metre seas, a significant advantage over conventional monohulls that often face limitations, restricting their launch and recovery operations to calmer harbor conditions. The versatile design allows Catfish to serve not only as a support vessel for larger yachts but also as a standalone explorer vessel, making it a dual-purpose asset in the luxury yacht market.
The construction of Catfish will utilize marine-grade aluminium, enhancing its durability and performance. This design emphasizes stability, enabling the vessel to carry and deploy an impressive array of equipment. Among the onboard features is a custom 18.6-metre sportfish, three bespoke tenders, and a seven-person Triton submersible, alongside an EC135 helicopter, which will be accommodated in a certified pad and hangar. The vessel's operational efficiency is further supported by commercial offshore davit and crane technology, along with lifts and foldable decks, facilitating the management of other equipment, including five Jet Skis and a 12.2-metre RIB.
One of the standout features of Catfish is the "mariner's den," which boasts a spacious fold-out balcony, lounge, bar, and a unique gyroscopic pool table. The lounge area also includes a glass-enclosed submersible garage, providing an open view of the various toys stored within, accessible through a roll-up door. Additional amenities include a gym, a dedicated spa, and a beach club, enhancing the overall luxury experience onboard. Accommodations are designed for 10 guests and 19 crew members, ensuring comfort and privacy for all.
On the support side, Catfish is well-equipped with hospital facilities, including a chamber room, diver room, fish station, and a fish freezer. A bait and tackle shop is also part of the comprehensive support system, catering to fishing enthusiasts.
In terms of performance, Catfish is anticipated to reach a top speed of 21 knots and maintain a cruising speed of 14 knots, with an impressive operational range of 5,000 nautical miles. The vessel features a 15.5-metre beam, a draft of 2.45 metres, and a total volume of 2,200 gross tons, underlining its substantial presence on the water.
Further details about Catfish are expected to be revealed at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where the yachting community can anticipate insights into this groundbreaking vessel.
