Damen Yachting Delivers 53m Support Vessel 'Five Oceans' to Owner
Damen Yachting has recently delivered its second 53.3-metre support vessel, named Five Oceans. The vessel was launched in March 2024, with the event attended by her owner, Tommy Allen, who expressed his satisfaction with the project. Currently, Five Oceans is anchored in Nice, France, in anticipation of its debut at this year's prestigious Monaco Yacht Show.
Five Oceans is designed to support Allen's company, Five Oceans Global Solutions, which focuses on marine conservation, resource management, and safe deep-sea exploration. The vessel will play a crucial role in conducting research on marine life, a core mission that aligns with Allen's vision for ocean stewardship. Damen Yachting's commercial executive highlighted the significance of contributing to this important cause through the support yacht platform.
The construction of Five Oceans began in December 2022, following two years of meticulous design and development. This support vessel is part of the YS 53 series, which is an advancement of the YS 5009 model, originally derived from Damen's commercial platforms. A key feature of Five Oceans is its expansive aft deck, measuring nine metres across, which is equipped to carry toys and tenders. The vessel also boasts a robust 15-tonne deck crane for the efficient launch and recovery of equipment.
Powering Five Oceans are two Rolls Royce MTU engines, generating a combined output of 6,000 horsepower and enabling a top speed of 19 knots. The vessel adheres to strict environmental standards, being fully compliant with IMO Tier III regulations and achieving a 70% reduction in harmful emissions during full-range operations. With a range of 5,000 nautical miles, Five Oceans is engineered for high performance, efficiency, and comfort.
Accommodating between six and 16 guests or staff, depending on the owner's preferences, the vessel also provides lodging for a crew of ten. Notably, Five Oceans remains below the 500GT threshold, making it a versatile option for various operational needs.
Damen Yachting is currently engaged in the construction of seven units, including a second YS 53 model. This news follows the recent delivery of the 60-metre superyacht Satemi, with its sistership, the sixth Amels 60, having just completed sea trials.
